Tottenham Hotspur remain in talks to sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba amid rumours about Cristian Romero’s future.
Cristian Romero is being linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur amid talks to sign Edmond Tapsoba.
The London Evening Standard report that talks between Tottenham and Bayer Leverkusen are continuing over a deal for Tapsoba.
An agreement is proving a little tricky to reach and Tottenham continue to try and tempt the Bundesliga side into selling.
Claims from the Daily Mail last week suggested that Tottenham were likely to sign Tapsoba with the defender keen on making the move.
Nearly a week has passed though and Tottenham are yet to find an agreement with Leverkusen, leaving the deal in limbo.
Tottenham have been focusing on signing James Maddison but with a deal now imminent, they could focus on Tapsoba next.
Hailed as a ‘fantastic’ player by Leverkusen director Simon Rolfes, Tapsoba has impressed in the Bundesliga and seems perfect for the Premier League.
Tottenham are chasing another Bundesliga defender in Wolfsburg star Micky van de Ven, which may leave Spurs fans thinking it’s him or Tapsoba.
However, there could be a twist on the horizon…
Juventus want Cristian Romero amid Tottenham’s pursuit of Edmond Tapsoba
Argentinian reporter Gaston Edul claims on Twitter that Serie A side Juventus are keen to sign Cristian Romero.
Some will remember that Juventus actually signed Romero from Genoa back in 2019.
However, Romero never made a single appearance for Juventus as he spent his time on loan at Genoa and Atalanta instead.
Romero’s move to Atalanta was turned permanent in 2021 and he was moved straight out on loan to Tottenham, who also took him on loan before a permanent deal.
The 25-year-old has been one of Tottenham’s better defenders in his time at the club though even the most ardent Spurs fans would admit that Romero can be a little rash.
Juventus could now make a move to sign Romero and who knows? Maybe the Argentina international will fancy finally making it in Turin.
That would potentially pave the way for both Tapsoba and Van de Ven to arrive this summer, forming a right-foot and left-foot partnership at the back.
That’s an interesting prospect but unless Romero leaves, we do think it will be either Tapsoba or Van de Ven rather than both.
