Wrexham’s star striker’unable to fly & stranded in US’ as Ryan Reynolds reacts to injury

Ryan Reynolds was left gutted after Wrexham’s star striker Paul Mullin suffered a punctured lung in their pre-season friendly with Manchester United in the US

Paul Mullin’s been left in a tricky situation out in the US where he is now set to be stranded after suffering a punctured lung in Wrexham’s clash with Manchester United.

Red Devils goalkeeper Nathan Bishop collided with the striker during the pre-season friendly, who came off worse from the challenge.

The 28-year-old had to be given oxygen on the pitch before being taken off to hospital, where he has since shared a picture from his bed to fans on social media.

However, it doesn’t appear he will be leaving any time soon, especially not the US – and that has left co-owner Ryan Reynolds gutted.

The Hollywood actor posted on Twitter after the 3-1 victory for Wrexham: “Reynolds puts his last drop of blood into everything he does. The entire @Wrexham_AFC community is pulling for a speedy recovery.”

Reynolds later added: “Massive thanks to @ManUtd for the incredible opportunity to play against a legendary Premier league side.”Man Utd 1 Wrexham 3 LIVE RESULT: Paul Mullin HOSPITALISED as Red Devils fall to Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side | The US Sun

Discussing the difficult situation Mullin now faces as he recovers in hospital, Wrexham skipper Ben Tozer told talkSPORT: “I’d say he misses the start of the season, definitely. I believe he’s punctured his lung. I don’t think he’s able to fly and it’s going to be a big loss for us sponsored

He said: “I’m fuming about it, I’ve got to be honest with you. It was a clumsy, reckless, challenge in a pre-season game and I’m not happy with it at all.

“I haven’t seen the goalie and he’s probably best steering clear of us for the time being because we’re not very happy.

“It should have been a straight red. If it’s not denying a goal scoring opportunity it’s still a dangerous challenge so if you add the two scenarios together he should have been off the pitch.

“It’s a dangerous challenge and obviously Mullin is our talisman. The way the lads responded after that I thought was outstanding. That’s what we’re all about as a group – resilience, sticking together.”

Wrexham’s final pre-season game comes against Philadelphia Union II on Friday night, before they get their League Two campaign underway on Saturday, August 5 at home to MK Dons.

Mullin – who won’t be able to fly home in his current state – will more than likely now have to sit out the start of the season, and Bishop has been left distraught over his part in causing the injury.

Ex-United keeper and Wrexham shot-stopper Ben Foster revealed: “I feel so bad for Nathan Bishop though, he’s absolutely heartbroken. I passed Paul’s number onto Nathan so he can get in touch with him, but yeah he’s absolutely gutted, I feel for the lad.”
