Wrexham’s star forward Paul Mullim was hospitalized with a punctured lung after a brutal challenge by Manchester United goalkeeper Nathan Bishop in Tuesday’s friendly in San Diego.

The ESPN broadcast between the two UK clubs revealed the goal scorer was going to be officially checked out at a San Diego hospital after the brutal collision with Bishop.

And Wrexham coach Phil Parkinson confirmed the bad news about his top goalscorer after the game.

Both were attempting to reach the ball first at the edge of the penalty area before Bishop bumped into Mullin’s kidney region.

The 28-year-old rolled in agony before Wrexham medics came to his aid. Naturally, he was substituted from the game.

Surprisingly, Bishop was booed by the Wrexham fans in attendance at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego.

The 23-year-old, who signed with the Red Devils from Southend United in 2020, received a yellow card for his part in the coming together.

Mullin’s injury aside, the night is proving a positive one for the Welsh club — who currently lead Man United 3-1.

The game is third of four on the team’s US tour, owned by actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Incidentally, McElhenney was at the game in southern California.
