James Balagizi signs new Liverpool deal and joins Wigan on loan
Talented Liverpool youngster James Balagizi has taken another step in his development journey. The 17-year-old Academy midfielder signs a new contract with the Reds and goes off on a season-long loan to League One side Wigan Athletic for the 2023-24 campaign.
The club’s official statement also came a few hours ago on Balagizi. His loan move comes after a successful stint with Crawley Town last season, where he gained valuable senior experience, making 16 appearances and scoring three goals
Having been with Liverpool since the age of 11, Balagizi has grown through the ranks of the club’s youth system and has shown tremendous promise. He was also an unused substitute for the senior team on two occasions against Shrewsbury and Norwich in the FA Cup and League Cup respectively.
League One offers a competitive platform for young talents to showcase their skills and gain vital match experience against seasoned professionals. Wigan’s faith in Balagizi is evident as they welcome him to their squad ahead of the upcoming season.
Joining Wigan will provide Balagizi with the opportunity to adapt to the demands of professional football, and the experience gained will be invaluable as he continues his journey with Liverpool. The loan move will enable him to build a stronger physical presence on the pitch.
The club’s decision to extend the attacking midfielder’s contract ahead of the loan move further emphasizes their commitment to his development and bright future at Anfield.
As Wigan prepares to kick off their League One campaign against Derby County on August 5, Liverpool supporters will eagerly follow Balagizi’s progress and hope to see him shine on the pitch.
