Patrick Peterson, a cornerback that they signed as a free agency this summer, has been a vital component of their defense.

With future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson, the Pittsburgh Steelers appear to have a competitive team going into the 2024 season. They should continue to win on defense even though their offense should improve.

Despite being 33 years old, Peterson believes he still has it in him, and despite the Steelers cutting him loose in March, he wants to sign a new contract with them.

On “The Jim Rome Show,” he praised head coach Mike Tomlin’s leadership and stated that Tomlin is the reason he wants to stay in Pittsburgh.

As the head coach of the Steelers since 2007, Tomlin currently holds the longest tenure of any head coach in the National Football League.

He’s really had one of the longest tenures of any major league head coach in professional sports.

Even though renowned quarterback Ben Roethlisberger retired two years ago, the Steelers haven’t had a losing season under his direction.

Even with Kenny Pickett, his quarterback for the previous two seasons, playing poorly, Tomlin was still able to lead Pittsburgh to a 10-7 record and a postseason appearance in the previous campaign.

Although he might not be the same player he was a few years ago when he was with the Arizona Cardinals, Peterson is still a productive cornerback with eight Pro Bowl selections and three All-Pro selections to his credit.

The AFC North appears to be the most competitive division in all of football this upcoming season, so if he signs a new contract with the Steelers, he will need to maintain his current level of production.
