The 6′ 6″ Georgian has played in 37 La Liga games this season and has maintained 13 clean sheets. The Magpies have apparently researched the player closely and are planning a deal.
could have their time at Newcastle United end after Sunday’s match against Brentford because Paul Dummett and Loris Karius have expiring contracts this summer. It’s also anticipated that Jeff Hendrick, a free agent who played the season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, will depart.
In fact, changes are anticipated in United’s goalkeeping staff in the upcoming months. When Loris Karius’s contract ends at the end of the following month, he will depart, and as Martin Dubravka approaches the last year of his contract, his future is unclear.
In 2023–2024, the Slovakian played in thirty games while Nick Pope missed five months due to a dislocated shoulder. Dubravka was benched for Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Brentford after Pope returned to full fitness, and he was then left off of the roster for the postseason trip to Australia.
According to The Times, Mamardashvili is probably going to fetch a price tag of about £35 million. He would reportedly compete directly with Pope and, at 23, be considered a long-term replacement, as the England shot stopper turns 33 the following year.
But Atletico Madrid is also interested in Mamardashvili, so Newcastle isn’t the only team connected to him.
It’s interesting to note that Valencia has made progress in replacing Mamardashvili. Following medical testing and a four-year contract agreement, Stole Dimitrievski will join the Mestalla club from Rayo Vallecano, as disclosed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
“Understand Macedonian GK already completed medical tests as new Valencia player, it’s all done,” Romano wrote on X. The agreement will run through June 2028, the next four years.
Mamardashvili is scheduled to make his 100th Valencia appearance on Sunday when they play at Celta Vigo in the last day of the La Liga season.
