Although some predict that the San Francisco 49ers will win the Super Bowl this coming season, it is unclear what will happen to them beyond 2024.

A few of its main players, such as cornerback Charvarius Ward, who had a stellar 2023 season, are about to enter the last year of their contracts.

Ward stated that he’s “trying to get that bag” and do better than he did the previous season to Kay Adams on “Up & Adams.”

After joining the 49ers as a free agency from the Kansas City Chiefs two years prior, where he earned a Super Bowl ring in the 2019 campaign, Ward strengthened a defence that was already formidable.

He recorded an NFL-high 23 passes defended and five interceptions in the previous season, earning him a spot in the Pro Bowl for the first time in his six professional seasons.

After safety Talanoa Hufanga, an All-Pro First-Team and Pro Bowl pick in 2022, suffered a season-ending ACL injury in Week 11, San Francisco’s secondary appeared weak at times. However, Ward was able to keep things together.

The Niners’ defence generally declined after finishing as the top in the league in 2022, but with Nick Sorenson taking over as defensive coordinator, there is optimism that the defence can return to its former elite level.

Along with Ward, Hufanga and standout wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk will be unrestricted free agents following the current campaign, while quarterback Brock Purdy will not be eligible for free agency for another two years.

Although keeping all of its stars and important players will be incredibly costly and challenging for the organisation, San Francisco appears dedicated to finding a method to do so and extend their championship window.
