Leeds United have gazumped Bournemouth and are closing in on the signing of Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow, according to Sky Sports.
Writing on his personal Twitter account (25 July), reporter Keith Downie reports that the Whites are close to agreeing a deal with the Magpies for the 32-year-old after offering a bigger fee than their Premier League rivals for his signature.
A deal is not yet completely agreed but the Cherries have moved on to other targets and Darlow is expected to travel back to the UK for a medical “soon” ahead of his move to Elland Road.
“Karl Darlow close to agreeing a deal to join Leeds United,” he wrote.
“The Newcastle ‘keeper had looked set for Bournemouth, but Leeds offering bigger fee and Cherries have signed Radu from Inter.
“Darlow will travel back to UK for a medical soon – once agreement in place.”
Perfect
Leeds have prioritised the signing of a goalkeeper this summer and Darlow was quite clearly one of the prime targets for the position.
So once it became clear there was a chance to get the deal done ahead of Bournemouth, it was imperative that the 49ers pulled the trigger and splashed the cash to ensure the team got what was needed.
Darlow was clearly keen on first-team football and there was talk that the Whites were willing to make him a more lucrative offer too, so it was a no-brainer if we could get ahead of Bournemouth in the race.
Now that this is edging closer to completion the manager can start to make plans for the starting lineup for the new season, which is only a couple of weeks away at this point.
Farke and Leeds have got their man now seemingly, and attentions can now turn towards other areas of the squad that need strengthening.
