Football Insider has been informed by sources that Cameron Archer will likely return to Aston Villa on a contract that is less expensive than what Sheffield United had to pay to sign him.

Archer’s contract had a buy-back clause after Villa sold him to the Blades for £18 million the previous summer. After Sheffield United’s 5-1 loss to Newcastle United in the Premier League, their relegation from the league was officially confirmed, triggering that condition.

The intriguing condition indicates that the 22-year-old would pay £14 million to relocate permanently back to the West Midlands if it were to come into effect.

Football Insider disclosed last month that the buy-back clause was part of the agreement and that other teams aren’t really interested in keeping the attacker from going back to Villa Park.

There was some surprise among the Villa fans last summer when the club sanctioned an exit for Archer to Sheffield United.

The former England youth international has scored four goals in 27 Premier League appearances this season, one of which came in his side’s 1-1 draw at Villa Park in December.

It’s so far unknown what Unai Emery’s plans will be for Archer once he returns to the club this summer, but the forward will be hoping to get a solid pre-season under his belt to force his way back into the reckoning at Villa Park.

The forward was sent on to help balance the books along with fellow academy products Jaden Philogene and Aaron Ramsey.
