In an effort to bolster their rosters before the summer, collegiate football and basketball clubs have launched their transfer portals.

For the Kentucky Wildcats, the spring season was exciting. Now that the team is preparing to compete in the revamped SEC this upcoming season, Mark Stoops and his staff are trying to address some holes on the roster.

The defensive back room is now one of those areas of necessity. Chris Collins and Brad White are searching for more bodies and general talent to assist cover some roles because of the injuries and overall youth of the group.

There’s a new name to watch out for.

DJ Waller Jr., a defensive back for the Michigan Wolverines, will access the transfer portal, according to a report from Pete Nakos of On3 on Wednesday night. Matt Jones of KSR said shortly after that the Cats will be closely collaborating with the young DB.

 

A former three-star prospect in the class of 2023, Waller is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound safety from Youngstown, Ohio. He selected the Wolverines over offers from Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Ball State, Marshall, and Toledo.

Waller recorded one pass deflection and eleven tackles in his one and only season in Ann Harbour.
