The Mets will have to make a difficult choice about one of their top players.

After a rough beginning, the New York Mets have emerged as one of the finest teams in baseball, but they will still have to make a tough choice.

With a 12-10 record, New York is presently third in the National League East. The Mets had a 0–5 start to the season and have now entirely turned their fortunes around. The Mets will probably be buyers before the trade deadline if they can keep up their current level of performance.

Should circumstances alter, the club’s appearance may vary. Superstar first baseman Pete Alonso is without a doubt the player most frequently cited in trade rumours. At the end of the season, he will become a free agent, and it is unclear if he will stay with the team.

He is a homegrown talent who has performed admirably thus far this season, but unless the two parties agree to an extension during the season, which is doubtful, there is always a chance he will be traded.

Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report compiled a list of Major League Baseball clubs’ top needs and potential trade possibilities to address them. Surprisingly, he brought up the possibility of the Detroit Tigers acquiring Alonso in the event that the Mets decided to move him.

“Home runs are down in general at the outset of 2024, but especially so for three teams in the American League Central,” stated Rymer. “These are the Chicago White Sox with eight, the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins with nine each. It’s neither the Twins (who eventually should hit for power) or the White Sox (who are doomed), but one of those clubs ought to be concerned.

“Josh Bell, Jake Burger, Pete Alonso, and Michael A. Taylor are Possible Solutions. This season, Alonso must be mentioned in relation to any squad that needs a lot of power, but don’t put too much emphasis on his inclusion. He doesn’t mesh well with Detroit.”

Whether the Mets will move the great slugger is unknown right now. Should they continue to triumph, a deal ought to be deemed improbable. That might all change, though, if they start losing money.
