Next Thursday night, the Washington Commanders will most likely select a quarterback with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft. However, it seems that LSU’s Jayden Daniels, one of the best quarterbacks in the draft, may no longer be a fan of the team.
The Commanders made the decision to schedule meetings this week at the same time with three of the best quarterback prospects: Daniels, JJ McCarthy of Michigan, and Drake Maye of UNC. That doesn’t appear to make sense at all. And it seems like the team may have suffered a setback as a result.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN NFL Insider, Jayden Daniels wasn’t quite thrilled with the unusual Washington meeting setup.Adam Peters, the new general manager, had the notion to accomplish this. CBS Sports claims that Peters was accustomed to comparable visitation arrangements in San Francisco. Additionally, it makes sense in some ways to bring in large numbers of participants at once in order to observe how they interact with one another.
But, I think it would be a mistake to do it for quarterbacks. To begin with, a quarterback selected second overall should be given special consideration and examination during a visit. This player is not just another draft pick; you are essentially placing the entire franchise’s future on him.
Furthermore, it doesn’t follow that this was best practice even if they had the third overall pick in 2021 and selected quarterback Trey Lance. Trey Lance, who is currently with the Dallas Cowboys, obviously did not fit in San Francisco.
