The Washington Commanders have an opportunity to change the trajectory of their franchise in the 2024 NFL Draft.

They currently hold the No. 2 overall pick, which many believe will be used on one of the top quarterbacks in this class

While this has been the public consensus for several weeks, there is a growing concern that the Commanders will trade out of this pick, hoping to acquire additional draft capital.

Mike Tannenbaum recently appeared on “Get Up” on ESPN, where he had a simple message for the Commanders, saying, “Don’t get too cute.”

If they don’t get one this year when they have a top-two pick, the Commanders might have a difficult time making it into the playoffs for the next several years.

As has been evident in recent seasons, having a solid quarterback is paramount for playoff success in the NFL.

The Commanders signed Marcus Mariota this offseason.

On paper, Mariota seems the most ready to be the team’s Week 1 starter, should the Commanders move back and pivot off the quarterback position.

Mariota has had some success in the league, but there’s a reason why he has been on several teams throughout his career.

He isn’t likely to be the team’s long-term option as a starter, another reason why Tannenbaum thinks it’s in their best interest to stay put and test their luck with the best available rookie.
