Tied for third most in the league, the Washington Commanders have nine picks in the 2024 NFL draft. The Commanders own three of the first forty picks, but the focus has been all on the No. 2 pick. The Commanders would acquire a first-round pick from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for the No. 36 and No. 67 picks in a potential deal suggested by Mauricio Rodriguez of A-to-Z Sports.
Rodriguez claims that the Commanders can select an edge rusher in the first round since they need one.
The Commanders have a tonne of options to choose from at the NFL Draft, but they desperately need assistance from edge rushers. They could try their hand at DE if they moved up to 24th.
The Cowboys may move down to the 36th pick and acquire a third-round pick in the interim. This would be a tempting offer for the team given how many holes they would need to cover, but they would be at danger of losing out on their preferred offensive lineman. Out of the three trade ideas listed above, this one is my particular favourite. Who doesn’t enjoy working out a deal with a division competitor, too?

Commanders Draft Needs
The Washington Commanders could use an edge rusher after dealing Chase Young and Montez Sweat in the previous season. The Commanders strengthened their defence this offseason with the addition of Dorance Armstrong, Bobby Wagner, Dante Fowler Jr., Frankie Luvu, and others, but Washington might be interested in locating a young pass rusher who can pick up tips from new head coach Dan Quinn.
Rodriguez is in favour of the move since it will provide them a player to take Young and Sweat’s place. He designates Darius Robinson of Missouri as the substitute.
If Robinson is a true talent that the Commanders are pursuing, I’d love to see this happen for them. The new players that Washington has added are only stand-ins for Quinn’s defence because the team just lost Chase Young and Montez Sweat to injury last season.
If positional value is taken into account, Robinson is not expected to finish 36th overall. The Missouri native is ranked as the 29th best prospect in the draft by our own film analyst James Foster, but several desperate clubs may pick him ahead of schedule.
Trade Could Benefit the Cowboys
