Pittsburgh – Not every Pittsburgh Steelers fan, current or former, agrees with the team’s decision to part with No. 84 this season.

Running back Cordarrelle Patterson, who was recently signed by the Steelers, was given the number 84 for the 2024 campaign. People immediately thought of Antonio Brown, and when word got out, the former wideout expressed his displeasure.

But he’s not the only one. Terrence Garvin, a former linebacker with the Steelers, stated that the team should not have disclosed the number as well. Garvin discussed the Arthur Moats Experience and his thoughts on Pittsburgh’s disregard for jersey numbers.

“No, I wouldn’t have parted with that eighty-four. That remains 84. Do you understand what I mean? AB 84 is that. For several years, the best wide receiver in the league. Never overlook. Even though the connection ended badly, Garvin continued, “That receiver has been the best in the league for a number of years.” “In my opinion, they shouldn’t have done it. That he’s carrying the 84 on his back bothers me.”

Throughout his 11-year career, Patterson has worn the number 84. Regarding recognition as a player, the future Hall of Famer also merits some thought, but Garvin believes that Brown should be elevated due to his illustrious time in Pittsburgh.

Only three jersey numbers have been retired by the Steelers in team history, but because of the heritage, they have prohibited players from wearing particular numbers. Had things not turned out the way they did in Pittsburgh, Brown might have fit into that category.
