A significant development regarding the future of a “unique” St James’ Park hero suggests that Newcastle United may approve of his departure during the summer transfer window.
News about transfers to Newcastle
With a convincing 4-0 victory over Tottenham at home on Saturday, the Magpies moved up to sixth position in the Premier League and, hopefully, set up a successful season finale. More depth is needed, and a number of fresh acquisitions are needed in the summer, regardless of what happens in the remaining weeks of the campaign.
Goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen, 21, of Villarreal, has been linked to Newcastle; he is reportedly considered as a Martin Dubravka replacement. Nick Pope would have fierce competition in goal from Aaron Ramsdale, who has the option to sign from Arsenal.
According to the article, “clubs are expected to look at the forward as a potential target” and the Paraguayan “could leave” the Magpies at the conclusion of the season. It adds that Newcastle is in fact “set to accept an appropriate offer”.
Almiron’s time at Newcastle does seem to be coming to an end this summer, as the wide attacker is now thirty years old and perhaps not quite the force he once was. This is demonstrated by the fact that, after 29 Premier League games last season, there have only been three goals scored, as opposed to eleven the previous season.
Despite earning £60,000 per week, the attacker has been a valuable member of the team overall, scoring 30 goals in all. Earlier in the season, Howe praised the player, saying as much:
“He’s (Almiron) a unique footballer. I don’t think there’s anyone better at doing what he does – all energy, all action. I’d like to see his physical stats today because I’m sure they’d be through the roof. The quality he showed with his finish was very reminiscent of some of the goals he scored last year. It’s a great return to form for Miggy – he’s such an important player for us.”
