Wide receiver is a position that the Pittsburgh Steelers need to address with urgency.

With Russell Wilson confirmed as the team’s starting quarterback through 2024 with the trade of Dionte Johnson to the Carolina Panthers, it will be imperative to surround him with as many weapons as possible to build up the offense for success.

After dealing for Johnson, the Steelers acquired Van Jefferson and Quez Watkins; but, in 2023, the two wide receivers combined for just 351 receiving yards.

The Pittsburgh Steelers do not have a wide receiver signed to their 2024 roster who recorded more than 209 receiving yards in the previous season, other from George Pickens. There were rumors that the Pittsburgh executives were in negotiations to sign free agent Tyler Boyd of the Bengals, but more recent sources said that the talks had broken down.
Nevertheless, the Steelers are still hoping to sign a dynamic wide receiver in free agency, according to a recent report from one NFL Insider.
The Steelers are “really trying to make something happen” at wide receiver, according to Audacy’s Jason La Canfora, who made this revelation during the April 9 edition of the podcast “In the Huddle.”

One thing that interests me is something we don’t know yet: do they make a trade to get a wide receiver before of the draft? If that was what they did on the Wednesday before the draft, it wouldn’t surprise me if they repeated it tomorrow. I know they’re truly attempting to make anything happen there if they did it during working hours or in the lead-up to the draft on Thursday.

The biggest name to surface as a potential trade target this offseason is Brandon Aiyuk, and if the Steelers want to make a significant move at the position, he is the most practical choice.

However, one recent trade proposal seems feasible given its well-considered design.

The Steelers may be delaying their efforts to sign a top wide receiver in free agency for a very important reason.

Alan Saunders of Steelers Now contended that the organization might be holding off on adding a big-time receiver until after June 1 in anticipation of a possible deal. Wide receiver Tyler Lockett of the Seattle Seahawks is a potential target, according to Saunders, if that is the case.

For seven seasons, Tyler Lockett was paired with Russell Wilson, the new quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.A pre-June 1 trade would be expensive for Seattle because Locatett reworked his contract with the Seahawks this offseason, according to Saunders’ writing. “If they sold Lockett today, the Seahawks would lose $8.9 million in cap space in addition to the projected costs, and there would also be a $27.8 million dead cap hit.
