Why Michael Penix Jr. is Rising up Draft Boards
Penix, who led the Huskies to the National Championship with 36 passing and three rushing touchdowns, is swiftly soaring up draft boards. While he may not be regarded a first-tier quarterback (Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels are predicted to be the top three picks), Penix could be the fourth quarterback selected in the 2024 NFL draft.
The 23-year-old quarterback excelled at the NFL Combine and continued to boost his value with his performance at Washington’s pro day. Penix’s athleticism was impressive, as seen by a stunning 4.53 40-yard sprint time, 36 1/2-inch vertical jump, and 10-foot, 5-inch broad jump.
Prior to his accomplishments at the NFL Combine and Pro Day, Penix was rarely touted as a possible first-round pick. Analysts now expect Penix to be selected before the first round concludes. According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, one anonymous coach predicts Penix will be drafted in the first round.
