Derrick Henry addressed his remarks on the alleged “perfect situation” that awaited him with the Dallas Cowboys.

Derrick Henry always intended to fly.

The great running back joined on CBS Sports Radio’s “Jim Rome Show” on Tuesday to clarify recent comments on his transactional fate, including claims that the Dallas Cowboys had a “perfect situation” for his NFL future despite signing with the Baltimore Ravens.

Henry stated that purple was always his first pick and that he had never received a call from The Star.

“For the record, Baltimore was always my number one choice,” Henry told Rome. “I’ve always wanted to go there… I know the Cowboys lost (Tony) Pollard, but I wasn’t sure if they’d be looking for a running back. I live here during the offseason, and I’ve been training and living here for a while, so I just thought it made sense, and I expected there to be talks. But they never actually reached out.”

Henry is wise to apply some spin control here. He has a property around 18 minutes from The Star. In many ways, it would have been “perfect.” However, if a team never calls, that team cannot be considered “optional.”

So, certainly, the Ravens were King Henry’s “top choice.”

Despite Pollard’s troubles in his debut season as Dallas’ top rushing option, the Cowboys are in a bit of a pickle now that he, ironically, is heading to Nashville to replace Henry in the Tennessee Titans backfield. Rico Dowdle is likely the No. 1 choice, with fellow project Deuce Vaughn serving as his spell option. Dallas will most likely go to the draft to provide a new rushing threat.

Henry stated that he had no enmity against the Cowboys, which is probably for the best given that Baltimore, the AFC’s defending top seed, will visit AT&T Stadium sometime next year.

Everything happens for a reason. I just pray to God to put me where I’m supposed to be.
