Joelinton, a Newcastle United midfielder, is close to committing his future to the club by signing a new contract.

According to talkSPORT, the Magpies have had a series of pleasant discussions with the Brazil international and his representatives and are hopeful of agreeing on a new four-year contract.

And, like his colleague Bruno Guimaraes, the Brazilian is on track to become one of the club’s highest earners.

The transfer would be a tremendous advantage for Eddie Howe.

Joelinton has only 15 months left on his current contract, and the club was prepared to listen to offers if a new deal could not be reached.

Joelinton is still healing from thigh surgery.

The Brazilian was pulled off during Newcastle’s FA Cup victory over Sunderland on January 6.

Howe had stated that the 27-year-old may be out for roughly six weeks, but the decision to operate now means that the player will be out until at least May.

According to a club release, “Newcastle United can confirm that Joelinton has successfully undergone surgery on a thigh injury sustained earlier this month.”

‘The midfielder will now begin a period of rehabilitation guided by the club’s medical experts and is scheduled to return to action in May 2024.’
