Newcastle United youngster Trevan Sanusi has announced his debut season has come to an early end.

The 16-year-old moved to Tyneside from Birmingham City last summer having reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool,

, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Sanusi has gone on to make 22 appearances for the club’s academy – namely with the under-18s – although has featured at under-21s level and during the UEFA Youth League campaign.

But with just under a month of the 2023-24 campaign remaining, Sanusi will play no further part. Confirming his injury on Instagram, he said: “Gutted to end my season off short due to injury, will be back stronger.”

Sanusi – who turns 17 later this month – hasn’t appeared for the Magpies since being called up by England under-17s for their European Championship qualifying triple-header against Northern Ireland, Hungary and France at St George’s Park last month.

The winger came on a substitute in a 5-0 win over Hungary but didn’t feature versus Northern Ireland or France.

Considering the number of injuries currently impacting Eddie Howe’s first-team squad, supporters had wondered if Sanusi might have been in line for some senior matchday experience.

In recent weeks, Amadou Diallo has been promoted from the under-21s, despite the former West Ham United forward reportedly set to be released this summer.
