Viktor Gyokeres was considered by Leeds before to signing Georginio Rutter.

The Athletic claims that Leeds looked at purchasing Viktor Gyokeres from Coventry before deciding to sign Rutter from TSG Hoffenheim for £35.5 million.

Despite the money spent to sign him, Jesse Marsch, Javi Gracia, and Sam Allardyce strangely failed to notice the France U21 international, who made only one Premier League start as Leeds were demoted.

Since then, Rutter has emerged as a star this season, making 40 appearances across all competitions and contributing seven goals and eighteen assists. However, his achievements pale in comparison to those of Gyokeres.

The giants of Portugal eventually acquired the Sweden international.

The Swede has surprisingly contributed 14 assists and 36 goals in his 39 games this season.

50 goal involvements in just 39 games is absurd, which is why Gyokeres appears to be Arsenal’s top target ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is thought that the Gunners are prepared to activate the 25-year-old’s €100 million (£85 million) release clause.

It is difficult to overlook how close Leeds came to acquiring a player with more goals than Erling Haaland this season, but none at Elland Road is unhappy to see Rutter in Yorkshire rather than the Sporting CP talisman.
