Birmingham City recorded a 3-2 win over Cheltenham Town to extend their impressive pre-season form
Birmingham City twice came from behind to maintain their perfect pre-season record with a 3-2 win at Cheltenham Town.
Keshi Anderson marked his official debut with a goal to cancel out Ellis Chapman’s early strike before George Lloyd gave the Robins the lead for the second time in the 31st minute. Blues hit back twice in quick succession through Jordan James and Juninho Bacuna to lead before half-time and Cheltenham couldn’t respond.
A first half packed with goals ignited in the 15th minute when Chapman became the first man to beat John Ruddy in pre-season. Blues failed to clear a free-kick and Chapman found space on the edge of the box to fire through the crowd and open the scoring.
Blues reacted rapidly to level through Anderson, who was officially confirmed as the club’s eighth summer signing before the game. Anderson expertly chested down Ethan Laird’s cross and squeezed a shot underneath the crossbar
Cheltenham regained the lead six minutes later after Rob Street exploited some space behind Manny Longelo to square for Lloyd. Lloyd got across the near post and poked beyond Ruddy.
After being breached twice, Blues finally shifted into gear and took control of the game. James equalised via a big deflection 10 minutes before half-time to take his tally to three in three games.
