Following the game against West Ham United, Nuno, the head coach of Nottingham Forest, offered his assessment of Taiwo Awoniyi.
Awoniyi scored one of Forest’s goals at the City Ground, but Nuno has seen that he is not quite fit.
What has Nuno stated on Taiwo Awoniyi, a striker for Nottingham Forest? Let’s examine this.
Nuno comments on Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi after West Ham United match
Well, on Saturday afternoon at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest defeated West Ham United 2-0.
With the victory, Nuno’s team for Forest was able to recover from a contentious 3-2 league home loss to Newcastle United.
Forest’s Taiwo Awoniyi scored the goal against West Ham. The 26-year-old striker for the Nigeria national team scored in the fifth minute of injury time during the first half. The assist came from Nicolás Domínguez.
Awoniyi has struggled with injuries this year. This season, the striker has made 11 starts and three substitute appearances for Forest in the Premier League. In those games, he has tallied six goals and provided two assists.
Although Nuno, the manager of Forest, has lauded Awoniyi, he has also stated that he must control the striker’s fitness, stating that he is having difficulties.
Regarding Awoniyi, Nuno stated to BBC Sport: “Strikers are about scoring, but for us it’s more than that.” They have to read the game, work, and when the time comes, upload it on the internet. It is our responsibility to take care of him because we are aware of his fitness struggles.
My View: Taiwo Awoniyi will play a big role this season
I think Nuno, the manager of Nottingham Forest, needs to exercise caution with Taiwo Awoniyi.
Chris Wood will be sidelined for several weeks, and Divock Origi hasn’t had much of an effect at the City Ground this year.
The former Liverpool striker, who joined on loan from AC Milan in the summer of 2023, has made two starts and nine substitute appearances in the Premier League but has not scored or assisted.
Thus, it is crucial for Forest to maintain Awoniyi’s fitness. After all, the Reds still run the risk of finishing the season in the Championship, even with their victory over West Ham United on Saturday.
