After some doubt, Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin made clear that he has every intention of returning to the team for the final year of his contract in 2024. The organization is leaving little doubt about where Tomlin stands beyond that, too.

Steelers president Art Rooney II told Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the team plans to extend Tomlin’s contract, and the two sides are expected to have little difficulty finding an agreement

Though such rumors were swiftly refuted, there was significant conjecture during the season regarding whether the underperforming Steelers may part ways with Tomlin. Then, as Tomlin approached the last year of his contract, speculation began to mount that he might decide to leave. Whether on purpose or not, Tomlin himself encouraged those rumors with his lack of response after Pittsburgh’s elimination from the playoffs.

Since taking over as head coach of the Steelers in 2007, Tomlin has led the team to constant success and has never had a losing season. As long as he wanted to stay, it was always the most likely course of action.
