Global supporters of Tennessee can now finally exhale with relief. Bru McCoy has formally declared that he will be staying at Rocky Top for another year in Tennessee. Bru McCoy has been a deadly weapon for the Volunteers over the past two seasons. Bru recorded 17 receptions, 1 score, and 217 yards in the previous season before suffering a terrible injury that prevented him from playing in 2023. The previous season, the Vol receiver played next to former 1000-yard receiver Cedric Tillman and winner of the Biletnikoff award Jalin Hyatt, and he had 52 receptions, four touchdowns, and 667 yards receiving.
Tennessee has picked up some threats of its own. Chris Brazzell is one of many threats that they added during the first portion of the portal season, as he announced back on December 21st that he would be going to Tennessee. He is an All-American freshman and put together a great season at Tulane. His stats were 44 receptions for 711 yards and five touchdowns. Tennessee also added the number-one tight end in the transfer portal Holden Stars from Notre Dame. Staes had 15 catches for 176 yards and four touchdowns for the Fighting Irish. They also recruited well, bringing in five-star Mike Matthews and four-star Braylon Staley. The wide receiver room as a whole will look a bit different, but it will also look extremely dominant.
Bru will be catching passes now for his third Volunteer quarterback as Tennessee looks to turn to current true freshman and future redshirt freshman Nico Iamaleava. When Iamaleava met with the media before his bowl game appearance, he stated, “I’m trying to get Bru back.” He also states, “It’s huge, man. I think a guy like that coming back, he’ll be the leader of the receiver room. We’ll be a little young next year, so just him coming back would be huge for me, and I’m working on it.” It looks as if Nico has got his wish, as he will have a physical outside target to throw the ball to in his first regular season as a starter.
