Nottingham Forest look set to miss out on the signing of Manchester City forward Carlos Borges. The Portuguese performer is now set to sign for West Ham for a fee of around £14 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, there is now a verbal agreement in place for the winger to go to the London Stadium. He also says that City will include a buy-back clause in the deal for the player.

Forest were thought to have been in the race for Borges this summer. The 19-year-old can operate on either flank or as a striker and he was a standout performer for the Manchester City under-21s last season.

Borges was like a man possessed and it was no surprise to see Forest chase the player. He scored 29 goals and registered 18 assists for the City under-21s as they won the Premier League 2 title.

This is a bit of a blow from a Forest perspective. However, it’s easy to understand that the player would be very hard pushed to choose a move to the City Ground once West Ham were keen.

The Hammers will be playing in the Europa League next season. They tasted European victory last season by lifting the UEFA Conference League; with David Moyes enjoying his defining moment as a manager.Who is Carlos Borges: The Next Manchester City star?

Forest have different ambitions. They will hope to improve on their 16th place from last season but this season they might have to cut their cloth accordingly and shop for players in a more meticulous fashion.

As a result, it looked as though they’d pulled a gem out in Borges. Now, the club will watch on with intrigue to see if they missed a trick by not trying harder to bring the player to Forest
