The Eagles are about to have two 1,000-yard wide receivers and a 1,000-yard running back for the second straight season, but neither wide out is looking good.
DeVonta Smith reached the 1,000-yard mark in the team’s victory over the Giants on Monday; D’Andre Swift needs just 12 more yards to reach that milestone. Although Smith had four receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown in the game, the wide receiver did not dwell on his achievements when questioned about it afterward.
“Right now, we’re not playing very good football. We’re not where we want to be, which is offensive. I’m not happy. Indeed, we’ve won eleven. I’m not content. It must be more conducive to my goals and the goals of everyone present here.
At least Smith had something to say, when A.J. Brown — who had 6 catches for 80 yards against the Giants, and now has 1,394 yards on the season — was asked to talk after the game, he instead opted to stay quiet and even challenged being fined for it.
Even though the Eagles’ performance against a division opponent this week was clearly lacking, they were nevertheless able to snap a three-game losing streak and win. In addition, they scored 520 yards of total offense and were more effective than they had been in recent weeks despite some turnovers.
Smith and Brown don’t seem all that interested in the potential upward trajectory that this victory could bring, and it’s interesting to note that the majority of the frustrations seem to stem from one particular position group, at least on the surface.
