Texas Tech picked up a commitment from former Florida Gators receiver and Texas native Caleb Douglas on Wednesday. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound sophomore caught 21 passes for 308 yards and three touchdowns in two seasons with the Gators.
Douglas started the first five games this season for the Gators before a lower-leg injury cost him the rest of the season. He finished with 11 receptions for 133 yards and a score. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Douglas was a three-star recruit rated as the No. 71 receiver in the country and the No. 65 overall prospect in the Lone Star State when he signed with Florida in 2022 out of Fort Bend Hightower High School in Missouri City, TX. The addition of Douglas helps fill a void left behind by several receivers transferring out from Texas Tech this month, including starters Jerand Bradley and Myles Price. Backup receivers such as Loic Fouonji, JJ Sparkman and Tyler King also entered the transfer portal.
Texas Tech added some much needed experience up front on the offensive line with the commitment of Vinny Sciury, who is transferring in from Toledo. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound offensive guard started every game the past two seasons and half of 2021 for the Rockets.
Sciury, who also received interest from schools such as Auburn after entering the portal, received the No. 12 pass blocking grade in all of college football and allowed just one sack in 2023 according to PFF. Sciury has one season of eligibility remaining.
