On Saturday night, quarterback Jalen Milroe of Alabama will not win the Heisman Trophy. Though Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, is pulling for Milroe to win something much more significant—as a Texas prep standout turned Crimson Tide quarterback.

Hurts stated, “He’s had a great year,” during this week’s press conference. He has always been a really unique player. He was raised in Texas. And he has just kept getting bigger and bigger. I’ve been cheering him on from a distance because it’s been extremely enjoyable to watch. I’m glad he made it to the last four and that he will now have the chance to guide his team and, ideally, win a national championship. I am totally behind him.

The impact Hurts had on Milroe was immediately apparent following Alabama’s 27-24 triumph over Georgia in the SEC Championship Game on December 2, which ended Georgia’s perfect record.

In a post-game on-field TV interview, Milroe responded, “Keep the main thing the main thing,” when asked what he believed to be the key to his success this season. “The most important thing was to just stay true to myself, and I had the right support system around me to uplift me. Before anybody had an opinion of me, I already had my purpose.”

Hurts always says, “Keep the main thing the main thing,” during news conferences. In February, ahead of Super Bowl LVII, Hurts was asked why he had been so successful despite the fact that many analysts didn’t believe he would be a top-tier NFL quarterback. He responded, “I had a purpose before everybody had an opinion.”

Following their victory over Georgia, Alabama advanced the Crimson Tide to the College Football Playoffs. In the Rose Bowl on January 1 at 4 p.m. CST, Alabama and Michigan will play for a position in the national championship game.
