player for the Colts suspended for six games due to PED use
There will be another PED-related ban for the Indianapolis Colts.
Al-Quadin Muhammad, a defensive end with the Colts, will miss the next six games without pay, the NFL announced on Wednesday. The suspension is the result of a transgression of the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy.
Muhammad’s ban has little bearing on the Colts. Muhammad is only on the practice squad this year and hasn’t played in a Colts game, despite having a significant role for Indianapolis in 2021 (starting all 17 games and ending second on the team with 6.0 sacks).
It’s interesting to note that earlier in the season, a different and far more important Colts defense received a suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs. In any case, it appears like every player Indianapolis loses makes them stronger. Despite being without injured players like Jonathan Taylor, Anthony Richardson, and others, they are 7-5 and very much in the running for the playoffs.
Retiring from football is one of the most accurate kickers in NFL history.
Robbie Gould, a former kicker for the San Francisco 49ers, declared his retirement on Thursday. In addition to reflecting on his career, the 41-year-old expressed excitement about having more time to spend with his family.
“I am incredibly grateful for the entire journey – the highs and lows as well as everything in between – having had the kind of playing career experience I did in the NFL,” Gould posted on Instagram. “To put it briefly, my NFL tale is unbelievable and full of ‘pinch-me’ moments.
“And right now? I’m lucky. No contract required, my beloved team has been waiting for me to join them full-time at home. I can’t wait to spend more time with my family and give my all to the things that are important to me outside of football. My wife has taken over at home while I’ve been working full-time for the longest period. I haven’t spent much time with my ten-year-old son in the past nine years. My two younger boys are five and eight years old. Dad hasn’t been around for them for the majority of their lives. I’m therefore prepared for this next phase of my life, without interruption.”
From 2005 until 2015, Gould played most of his NFL career with the Chicago Bears. After that, in 2016, he played a season with the New York Giants. From 2017 until 2022, he was a kicker for the 49ers.
During his career, Gould, who was selected for the Pro Bowl in 2006, made 86.5% of his kicks. As per Pro Football Reference, he is the ninth most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL.
Even though Gould was not re-signed by the 49ers for this season, he was still quite productive in 2022. Last season, Gould converted 27 of 32 field goals and 50 of 51 extra-point attempts.
One of the top candidates for NFL teams looking to hire a head coach for the next season is Ben Johnson. Last week, there was even talk that the Carolina Panthers would be interested in him. However, Carolina must be wondering if Johnson would be interested in them.
Johnson, the offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions in his second season there, decided not to pursue head coaching positions at this time and instead chose to return to Detroit for the 2023 campaign. After going through an interview process, he decided not to be considered for the Panthers position.
Johnson might feel more comfortable taking the next step after serving as the Lions’ offensive coordinator for two seasons, but he might be hesitant to move to Carolina.
The Panthers and the issues facing their organization this season were the subject of a lengthy report published by The Athletic on Wednesday. Reporting for the story came from Dianna Russini and Joseph Person.
Some with Carolina “have been texting Johnson about how complicated it’s been to work in Carolina this season,” Person and Russini said toward the end of the tale. Stated differently, Johnson is receiving advice from current Panthers staff members not to report to work for the team.
According to a number of accounts, David Tepper, the owner of the Panthers, is a very involved and meddling person, even more so than Dan Snyder. Now that coaches are aware of the Panthers, they don’t think becoming head coach is a desirable position.
