The Philadelphia Eagles announced that the Philadelphia Foundation’s Eagles Social Justice Fund has given grants totaling $290,250 to the following Philadelphia-area groups fighting to prevent gun violence in Philadelphia:
For the third year in a row, the Eagles Social Justice Leadership Council, comprising of players and club officials, voted to support social justice causes aimed at reducing gun violence in Philadelphia. These contributions emphasized violence prevention, workforce development, and breaking the cycle of poverty through financial education.
“On behalf of the Eagles, I would like to congratulate this year’s social justice grant recipients and thank them for the work they do to cultivate strong neighborhoods,” stated Jeffrey Lurie, Chairman and CEO of the Philadelphia Eagles. “I’d also like to thank our players for being so thoughtful in their selection of these organizations.” Their continued devotion to our extended Philadelphia family in the community has a great impact on the lives of so many people.
In honor of Giving Tuesday, all nine charities took part in a My Cause My Cleats-inspired sneaker-designing event with Eagles players, where their logos were meticulously hand-painted on Nike Air Force 1s. The special sneakers, which have all been signed by Eagles center Jason Kelce, will be auctioned off on NFL Auction, with the earnings going to each foundation.
“It is an honor to be part of the Eagles Social Justice Leadership Council and have opportunities like this to award local organizations that are working to enact positive change,” Jason Kelce, the Eagles center, said. “Through financial education, workforce development, and economic opportunities, each of the non-profits receiving grant funding this year has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to building a brighter future for our youth.” We appreciate their commitment and hope that it motivates others to join in and use their resources in a similar way
