Nottingham Forest hope that Taiwo Awoniyi will link up with the rest of the squad on the pre-season trip to Spain later this week. The Reds had to leave their striker behind over issues with his passport but it’s a minor issue and one they expect will be resolved.
At this time of the year, it’s important not to believe everything you read on the internet! Last night, some idle trouble-makers claimed that his absence might be due to him wanting to leave the club. Now, The Athletic have dismissed any notion of that
For Nigerians to enter Spain there is a slightly different piece of paperwork that is required. Awoniyi now looks to be resolving this issue and Steve Cooper hopes to have him available for Saturday’s game against Levante.
Last season proved a very successful one for Awoniyi. He finished the campaign with 11 goals in all competitions, proving his worth after checking in from Union Berlin last summe
At just £17 million, Awoniyi more than proved his worth. He scored some very important goals, including big ones against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal across the campaign.
The 25-year-old will likely be a huge player for the Reds again next season. A stellar striker looks unlikely to be added and Awoniyi will likely take up the goalscoring mantle.
Forest hope Awoniyi can head to Spain this week
This is good news. Forest will be hoping that Awoniyi can stay sharp during pre-season and carry on where he ended last season once the 2023/24 campaign gets going again.
The striker’s form at the back end of last season ultimately kept the club up. Had the Premier League done a Player of the Month for May, Awoniyi would have likely won it.
Forest have key areas that they need to strengthen this season. As a result, the club won’t have the luxury of being able to splash the cash on every single area of the pitch.
A new striker will be required but Awoniyi will likely remain the main man. Forest will hope to get him over to Spain in the coming days and start putting him through his paces.
