Leeds United are set to sign Ethan Ampadu – and beat the likes of Burnley and Sheffield United in the process.

Ethan Ampadu is poised to sign for Leeds United despite interest from a number of other English clubs.

That is according to 90Min, who claim that Leeds are finalising a deal to bring Ampadu to Elland Road.

This comes after the London Evening Standard reported on Monday that Ampadu was heading for a medical with Leeds.

The Whites have agreed to pay £7million rising to £10million with add-ons, bringing Ampadu’s time at Chelsea to an end.

90Min claim that Leeds have managed to beat three Premier League clubs to Ampadu’s signature with Sheffield United, Burnley and Fulham all keen.

Championship rivals West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City were interested too but Leeds have won the race.

Sheffield United wanted Ethan Ampadu return

It’s particularly interesting that Leeds’ Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United were so keen to land Ampadu.

The Welsh international spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Bramall Lane as Chris Wilder celebrated signing an ‘outstanding’ talent.Chelsea transfer news: Ethan Ampadu joins RB Leipzig on season-long loan | Goal.com United Arab Emirates

Ampadu made 25 Premier League appearances but couldn’t stop the Blades from suffering relegation.

That season sadly started a terrible run for the 22-year-old; he has now been relegated in each of the last three seasons having been on loan with Sheffield United, Venezia and Spezia.

Current Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom was in the coaching setup at Sheffield United during Ampadu’s time there and even took charge after Wilder’s exit.

Heckingbottom – formerly of Leeds – seemingly wanted to give Ampadu a return to Bramall Lane but has lost out to Leeds despite being in the Premier League.

That will feel like a coup for Leeds, who will be hoping to see Ampadu finally live up to his potential after four seasons out on loan away from Chelsea.
