Quarterback Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions looked bad for three quarters of their Week 11 game against the Chicago Bears. Goff remarked after erasing a 12-point fourth-quarter hole to win the game 31-26 that while the effort wasn’t outstanding, the outcome said a lot about the team.

“Not my best ball for about three and a half quarters, but we found a way to make it work there at the end,” Goff remarked, according to the team’s website. “It’s an indication of a good team.” We’re a tough bunch. We’re a rough bunch. We have a lot of guts and never back down from anything.”

Jared Goff was not lying when he said the game was “not my best ball.” The Lions quarterback was 23-of-35 for 236 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions, allowing the Bears to establish a huge lead with just minutes remaining in Week 11.

Goff’s stats were significantly worse before leading 75- and 73-yard scoring drives to win the game. Goff had three interceptions, one score, and passed only 13-of-23 for 121 yards prior to those two drives.

The Lions are in rarified air (for them)

However, the Lions showed tenacity in this game, and the team is now 8-2 for the first time since QB Milt Plum, halfback Dan Lewis, and split end Gail Cogdill (yeah, those are real people; I didn’t make them up) led Detroit to the same record in 1962.

Detroit currently has a huge lead in the NFC North, and depending on how the Philadelphia Eagles play the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night, they might be tied for the top spot in the NFC come Tuesday morning.

Goff and the Lions will try to keep the party going, albeit in a less dramatic form, when they host the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving.
