The New York Jets’ plans for 2023 were put on hold when quarterback Aaron Rodger store his Achilles on the first offensive drive of the season, but the Jets remain optimistic about what they may achieve in the future with Rodgers at the helm. The Jets surrounded him with familiar faces like Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb, but they also reportedly tried to trade for Las Vegas Raiders wideout Davante Adams – and they may not be done attempting to duplicate the dynamic combination of the Green Bay Packers in New York.

According to ESPN, the Jets asked about Adams before to the trade deadline. Despite being spurned, ESPN’s sources anticipate the Jets to pursue Adams again this offseason. Adams has a particular bond with Rodgers, but it’s unclear whether he’d want to leave Vegas.

Despite many instances in which Adams has shown his dissatisfaction with the Raiders’ ongoing troubles, ESPN reported earlier this year that Adams remains committed to playing for the Raiders in the long run. It’s something he hoped to do after being traded from the Packers. Adams apparently believes in rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell, who has taken over for Jimmy Garoppolo.

Since acquiring Rodgers, the Jets have apparently been observing and tracking Adams. According to ESPN’s sources, whether the Raiders consider dealing Adams will be determined by how the 2023 season ends. Adams’ contract is also worth noting, since he agreed to a five-year, $140 million deal with the Raiders that will begin in 2022. The contract has the highest total value of any wide receiver contract. His AAV of $28 million is second only to Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins ($30 million).

With Adams, the Raiders are 11-16 in Vegas, averaging 5.8 receptions and 80.6 receiving yards per game. He has 17 touchdown receptions in 27 games played and led the league with 14 last year.
