Green Bay Packers S Benny Sapp III has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster for gameday. The move was announced on Saturday by General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

Sapp joined the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Iowa this past May and has spent the whole season on the practice squad.

Sapp played 63 defensive snaps for Green Bay in the preseason. He had four stops against Seattle, one reception on two targets for seven yards, one pass deflection, and an interception.

Despite being a long chance for the initial 53-man roster, Sapp was quickly signed back to the practice squad after the roster cuts in August.

Darnell Savage is on injured reserve, and Rudy Ford is questionable, so Jonathan Owens and Anthony Johnson will start at safety. Dallavitt and Zayne Anderson, both special teams players, are among the reserves.

Sapp had a knee injury as a three-star recruit at Eden Prairie High School in Minnesota, necessitating surgery and forcing him to miss his senior year.

Prior to that, Sapp was a top defensive recruit in the country at St. Thomas Aquinas. His freshman performance earned him 21 college offers, including those from Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Michigan.

Sapp, on the other hand, tore his ACL as a sophomore. He tore it again in his junior year. Benny Sapp II, Sapp’s father, relocated the family to Minnesota in order to resume Sapp’s football career. Fans were ecstatic to see Sapp named to the game day lineup after a lengthy journey:
