Should the Cardinals negotiate an offseason trade with the Yankees involving a Gold Glove Award winner?

The roster for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2024 will almost probably be changed.

This offseason, St. Louis will add starting pitching. This is the team’s most pressing need, and the Cardinals have said all the right things about it thus far this offseason. Due to a stalemate, St. Louis will almost certainly deal at least one or two outfielders. The Cardinals have been the subject of trade speculations over the previous year, but it appears that they will make a move or two this summer.

According to the New York Post’s Joel Sherman, one team that has been linked to the Cardinals as a potential trade partner is the New York Yankees, and one player who could make sense in a deal is Brendan Donovan.

“I suspect Cincinnati’s T.J. Friedl and Philadelphia’s Brandon Marsh are not in play, but the Yankees and Cardinals talked a lot at the deadline and St. Louis has potential center field alternatives such as Dylan Carlson, Tommy Edman, and Lars Nootbaar,” Sherman said in a statement. “Furthermore, Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak has stated that the team not only needs to add starting pitching but also wants to reduce its positional/outfield surplus to clear playing time.” However, the Cardinals lefty bat I believe best fits the Yankees

Due to injuries, Donovan only appeared in 95 games for the Cardinals in 2023, but he will most certainly have the highest trade value of St. Louis’ available outfielders. He is only 26 years old and has already won a Gold Glove Award. As a rookie, he hit.281/.394/.379 with five home runs and 45 RBIs and was on pace to improve in 2023. He hit 11 home runs, drove in 34 runs, and hit.284/.365/.422 in 95 games.

The Cardinals have been touted as a possible trade partner on multiple occasions, and it appears that this trend will continue throughout the offseason. It’s unclear who the Cardinals will trade, but it sounds like they’ll talk to the Yankee
