Singletary ran for a career-high 150 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging five yards per carry. He is now formally Dameon Pierce’s backup running back following Pierce’s ankle injury that kept him out of the game on Sunday.

In Sunday’s 30-minute game, they were harmed by two veterans they could have pursued in free agency.

Due to the nonexistent running back market and the collapse of the tight end market, Dalton Schultz and Devin Singletary were forced to sign team-friendly one-year contracts.

Houston hired the two veterans on March 20 and 21, respectively. That was more than a week after the start of free agency.

Schultz could have been a starting tight end right out of the gate. He agreed to a $6.2 million, one-year contract. In Houston, Singletary signed a one-year contract worth $2.75 million, making him an excellent backup to Joe Mixon.

Singletary averaged five yards per carry while rushing for a career-high 150 yards and one touchdown. He is officially Dameon Pierce’s backup running back after Pierce missed Sunday’s game with an ankle injury.

Schultz gained 71 yards from four receptions, including several third-down catches that prolonged drives.

The Bengals had a lot of problems on Sunday, but some of those problems stemmed from this offseason’s deterioration at tight end and running back. There were good options out there. Just two veterans who could have aided this team are Schultz and Singletary.

In retrospect, it’s not surprising to wonder why neither player ended up in . Before either player signed with the Texans in March, there was a lot of discussion about where they would fit on this roster. Give Houston credit for strengthening their roster and acquiring two seasoned players who were helpful to them.
