According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Blazers centre Robert Williams III will have knee surgery and will be out for some time.
Shams Charania of the Athletic stated that Williams could need season-ending surgery to correct bone and ligament damage caused by his right kneecap injury.
It was also believed that the team will adopt a cleaning technique that would keep him off the court for two to three months.
According to the latest update, doctors and Williams’ agent, Kevin Bradbury of Lift Sports Management, are gathering information on the type of surgery required and a recovery timeline.
He was injured in the second half against the Grizzlies with just a few minutes remaining and was assisted to the locker room.
Williams had an injury to his other knee last year while playing for the Boston Celtics, necessitating arthroscopic surgery.
William missed more than half of last season due to knee surgery following Boston’s journey to the NBA Finals in 2022.
The torn meniscus he suffered during the 2021-22 season was one of his severe ailments in the NBA; he appeared in only 209 games with the Celtics over five seasons.
In an offseason trade, the Trail Blazers received Williams, Malcom Brogdon, and two first-round lottery selections in exchange for Jrue Holiday.
