Jesse Marsch has provided us with an update on his squad in his press conference prior to the Leeds United match against Nottingham Forest. See the Leeds United team news before the Premier League clash on Sunday 5th February.
As per usual, Jesse Marsch provided a quick update on the club’s injury record. Adam Forshaw is reportedly not yet ready for a return, with Archie Gray almost returning to training. Sonny Perkins has a ten-day injury after the FA Cup clash, but there is some light in the fact that Stuart Dallas is continuing to make good progress. The Northern Ireland international isn’t back yet, but a return to football seems to be getting closer and closer.
Leeds United fans were shocked to see the club state that Rodrigo received an injury against Accrington Stanley, one that could keep the player out for six to eight weeks. This impact injury came towards to end of the match, leading to a fracture at the bottom of the striker’s tibia. Although some have criticised Marsch for bringing Rodrigo on, he did so as he wanted to see Rodrigo and Patrick Bamford playing together after the latter’s return from injury.
One of the biggest twists on deadline day was Jack Harrison staying at Elland Road after rumours spread of him travelling down to Leicester City to complete a medical. According to Marsch, the Foxes made an “11th hour” offer for the English winger, and the club temporarily considered it. However, as senior figures from the club came together, there was an agreement to retain Harrison’s services.
The American manager also stated that the club have been in negotiations with the player over a new contract, who currently only has 18 months left on his contract. He followed this up by saying “His head is really clean”, and that a new deal is just around the corner. Although there was a potential agreement in place, it seems like the forward’s future is at Thorp Arch.
Weston McKennie’s role in the squad was a big question, especially with the cost of the club’s newest signing. According to Marsch, the midfielder is fit and ready to play, knowing where he is integrated into the squad. This is a big boost as Leeds United team news goes, with the USMNT player reportedly ready for a potential start this weekend.
