Writer Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report recently detailed the Grizzlies’ involvement in a number of terrifying incidents, including one that appears to be “haunting” a strong contender for the championship.

Equipped with three first-round selections in total from the historic June event, the Celtics had chosen to select guard Payton Pritchard and wing Aaron Nesmith with the 14 and 26th picks, respectively, before Bane was selected.
According to the article, if Boston had retained all of the aforementioned players, it would have “pushed them closer to the luxury tax.” As a result, they chose to trade the former TCU star to the Grizzlies in exchange for two future second-round picks, a decision that they have “definitely been kicking themselves ever since,” according to Buckley.
“Bane’s professional path has resembled an arrow going straight upward. After finishing second in the 2021–22 Most Improved Player vote (to teammate Ja Morant), he successfully raised the stakes this past season by averaging 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. This season, Buckley said, “he is already under All-Star watch.”
Nesmith, on the other hand, was traded for Malcolm Brogdon in July 2022, after spending just two seasons with Boston. Although Pritchard is still a Celtic, it appears that this will be his first season playing a full-time position in the rotation.
Bane has played in the association for four years, and with each new season, he has only become better.
Despite a bothersome toe issue that necessitated offseason surgery, the guard managed to record then-career-high averages of 21.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.4 assists last year while shooting 40.8 percent from outside the arc and 47.9 percent from the field.
Bane secured a lucrative new deal with the Grizzlies as a result of his performance, one that will keep him in the team through at least the 2028–2029 campaign.
The newly acquired $207 million player has only seemed to step up his game during these early stages of his follow-up campaign; despite their winless start, he is averaging an incredible 25.5 points, 4.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game while making an extremely effective 48.7 percent of his shot attempts.
Bane, who is only 25 years old, has already proven to be one of the finest young backcourt players in the league on both sides of the court, leading many to predict that he will be selected as an All-Star soon.
Almost any club in the league would be angry to miss out on this kind of productivity, especially the Celtics who aggressively tried to get rid of it before they even got a true taste.
Fans and franchise participants alike will surely find it uncomfortable to consider “what could have been” in regard to Bane.
