Aston Villa will look to extend their Premier League unbeaten record to six games when they host newly promoted Luton Town at Villa Park on Sunday.

Unai Emery’s team (5th position – 19 points) has continued where they left off last season, winning six of their first nine games to reach matchweek 10 within a point of the top four. Only two of their nine games have been decided by one or zero goals: a 1-0 win over Chelsea and a 1-1 tie with Wolves. Their two defeats were 8-1 against Newcastle and Liverpool, respectively. While Aston Villa’s results have been mixed, it has been primarily feast or famine for Ollie Watkins (5 goals, 5 assists) and Moussa Diaby (2 goals, 3 assists), two of the Premier League’s top performers thus far.

Luton, on the other hand, have just one Premier League win and five points, and they are in the bottom three after Bournemouth won their first game of the season on Saturday. Last Saturday, the Hatters rallied from 2-0 down after 82 minutes to salvage a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, snapping a two-game losing streak. Sunday’s encounter will be something of a homecoming for Luton Town manager Rob Edwards, who made his professional debut for Aston Villa in 2002-03. Edwards appeared in nine games for the club before joining West Midlands rivals Wolves in 2004.
