Eagles Are Pressed to Complete Another Significant Defensive Trade

By striking a deal earlier in the week to acquire safety Kevin Byard from the Tennessee Titans, the Philadelphia Eagles have already significantly strengthened their defence. Might the Eagles add one more player?

Sports Illustrated’s Gilbert Manzano believes that would be suitable.

Manzano advises Philadelphia to go after Donte Jackson, a cornerback with the Carolina Panthers, in order to bolster its secondary depth.

With the 28-year-old Jackson scheduled to become a free agency this offseason and the Panthers sitting at 0-6 and obviously in rebuilding mode, he appears to be a top trade candidate.

Despite not being a star, Jackson has recovered well from his Achilles rupture from the previous season, and he would provide quality to a Philly defensive backfield that could use a little more depth.

Jackson might fit the need at versatile cornerback for the Eagles, who haven’t really found a replacement for Avonte Maddox after he suffered a torn pectoral muscle early in the season.

In the second round of the 2018 NFL Draught, Carolina made an initial selection of Jackson, an LSU football player.

Having started every game in his first season and totaling 74 tackles, a sack, four interceptions, nine passes defended, and a forced fumble, it was likely his best season to date.

Although Jackson hasn’t participated in a complete season since his rookie year, the Eagles wouldn’t need him to play every play. All they would be looking for from him would be some depth behind Darius Slay and James Bradberry (and to step in for Maddox when needed).Six points apiece for the season, Philadelphia has one of the greatest records in the NFL.

This Sunday, the Eagles will attempt to sweep the Washington Commanders this season.
