The revelation that veteran guard Marcus Smart will be joining numerous colleagues on the injury list for tonight’s away game against the Cleveland Cavaliers means that the Boston Celtics will have a much thinner frontcourt.
Along with backcourt teammates Jaylen Brown (torn wrist ligament), Kemba Walker (planned rest), and big man Robert Williams III (left foot turf toe), the Flower Mound native is allegedly sitting due to a right calf injury. The Cavs are a club with seven or eight players, so the Celtics will have to rely a lot on their depth.
Nevertheless, this is far from ideal for a team trying to avoid falling farther behind in the standings in the final stretch.

If there is a bright spot in the season, it’s that Tremont Waters, Carsen Edwards, Payton Pritchard, and Aaron Nesmith will have more chances to play than they probably would have otherwise.
