Jamie Shackleton has remained an unused sub for Leeds United in the last two games and is likely to fall further down the pecking order as the season goes on – and he might be wishing he moved to Rangers.
Shackleton, 24, returned to Leeds in the summer after an indifferent season out on loan at London side Millwall. The versatile ace is back at Elland Road and has worked his way back into Daniel Farke’s plans.
But, of late, he has remained an unused sub after a good start. Shackleton last played a league game in September, missing two with a shoulder issue – and then, staying on the bench at Norwich and Stoke.
With Archie Gray, Ethan Ampadu, Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev all options in central midfield, Shackleton will only really get a look in at full-back. That has been proven by only playing on the right or left so far.
Djed Spence is closing in on a return from injury, while Luke Ayling remains an option. On the left, we have Sam Byram in good form and ridding himself of his injury prone status. Junior Firpo is injured.
But he is closing in on a return, as is Stuart Dallas. Shackleton is going to plummet down the pecking order after a good start – and he will surely be wishing he considered a move to Scottish giants Rangers.
Phil Hay reported on The Athletic’s website that Rangers considered a move while Michael Beale was still manager. Beale often used the Championship as a scouting pool for possible signings at Ibrox.
He has of course been sacked, replaced by Philippe Clement. With that, Shackleton’s chances of a move to Rangers is over. Surely, with his lack of game time, he will be thinking he should have moved.
