Nottingham Forest fans are hoping that the injury suffered by Senegal midfielder Cheikhou Kouyaté while playing against the Netherlands in the World Cup isn’t as serious as it appears.
The 32-year-old collided with Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong in a seemingly innocuous incident but was unable to continue and was stretchered off with just over a quarter-hour remaining in the country’s first group encounter at the tournament. Kouyaté has been a vital contributor for Steve Cooper’s side recently, and his absence would be a setback for the Reds.
Forest fans are hoping that the injury is not a serious one and won’t impact them once their season resumes in a month’s time. Here is a selection of the social media reaction to Kouyaté leaving the pitch on a stretcher.
Gareth D: Fingers crossed for Kouyaté’s well-being; he’s been excellent for us in recent weeks, and it would be a tremendous shame to lose him for an extended amount of time due to injury.
Lee Clarke: I hope Kouyaté is doing well. This season has been fantastic for us…
Caitlan Emmas: The Dutch only scored because Kouyaté was sent off.
Dave Holmes: Oh, no! Not good for Kouyaté; hopefully, it’s not as dangerous as it appears and he’ll be able to return after the break. At the very least, we have Mangala and O’Brien ready to step up and play if necessary.
