Brighton have handed James Furlong a new contract at the club.

James Furlong has put pen to paper on a new two-year contract with Brighton, as confirmed by the club’s official website. This announcement comes hot on the heels of club captain Lewis Dunk’s own extension.

Furlong has been with the Seagulls since 2019, and this deal will keep him at the Amex Stadium until 2025.

The 21-year-old joined the Premier League outfit from Shamrock Rovers, and made his debut for the club in the Carabao cup last season.

Furlong joined Scottish side Motherwell on loan in January and quickly became an important member of their first team squad, making 16 appearances in the Scottish Premiership and providing three assists. The Dublin-born left-back will now be keen to take the next step in his career and establish himself in Roberto De Zerbi’s first team squad

Brighton know they have a potential gem

Furlong developed greatly during his time with Motherwell. The Ireland under-21 international spoke out about how he felt his game was developing and improving whilst with the Steelmen, saying “It’s been huge for me…I think I have settled in really well and I am enjoying it and hopefully that will continue,” as quoted by the BBC.James Furlong

Motherwell knew they were getting a talented prospect in Furlong when he joined them. Then-manager Steven Hammell confirmed that Brighton rate the youngster highly, saying, “James is a young player who came highly recommended to us from Brighton…It’s a good opportunity for him and is seen as a potential first-team player for Brighton,” as quoted by The Argus.

This new contract suggests that the Seagull’s optimism over Furlong’s potential and his future at the club remains intact.
