Wrexham defeated Salford City at the SToK Racecourse ground on Saturday, demonstrating once more their penchant for dramatic endings with two late goals that were scored 54 seconds apart.

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds’ team now has three or more goals in six of its seven home league games this season thanks to Jordan Davies’ 89th-minute victory.

Forward After 15 minutes, Matt Smith gave Salford the lead with a goal that was assisted by a brilliant cross from Stephen Mallan that was deflected beyond Wrexham custodian Arthur Okonkwo.

Twenty minutes later, Smith added Salford’s second goal by seizing control of a loose ball in the Wrexham box and rolling it into the bottom corner.

Two minutes after Smith’s goal, Wrexham, who entered the weekend in seventh place, cut the gap almost immediately when Elliot Lee rose highest to head James McLean’s corner into the back post.

Paul Mullin was pushed to the ground shortly after halftime, and Phil Parkinson’s team thought they should have been given a penalty. However, the referee waived away their complaints.

After some outstanding work down the right channel by Luke Bolton, Mallan was gifted a clear-cut chance to restore Salford’s two-goal advantage in the 56th minute when he was discovered in space in the penalty area.

Before cutting the ball back for Mallan to shoot, the Salford winger sped through an attempted challenge. However, the No. 14 for Salford missed the goal post with his shot.

Around 20 minutes from time, Mullin had a chance to tie the score for Wrexham, but the forward could only head McLean’s precise cross over the crossbar.

A few minutes later, the Wrexham forward made up for his carelessness when substitute Steven Fletcher threw his cross over the goal line.
