The 33-year-old former Sunderland loanee is now without a team after leaving Olympiacos in Greece at the end of the last campaign.

The French international had a spectacular season with the Black Cats, as he played a key role in the team’s 2015–16 Premier League survival.

During his year in the North East, he made 40 appearances for the Wearsiders, scoring one on a free-kick against Aston Villa. M’Vila departed England and went back to Rubin Kazan, nevertheless, after Sunderland declined to exercise an option to make the trade permanent.

The next season, under David Moyes, the Black Cats were demoted from the Premier League, ending their ten-season run in the top division of English football. M’Vila went on to play for Inter Milan, Saint-Étienne, and Olympiacos.

The midfielder was reportedly the subject of attention from numerous clubs, including Sunderland, and the player had spoken with owner Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, according to sources in M’Vila’s home country.

RMC Sport, a French newspaper, reported: “In England, two clubs inquired: West Bromwich Albion, where the coach is called Carlos Corberán and knew M’Vila in Greece, and Sunderland: the player had also exchanged this summer with Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, owner of the Championship team and son of the former bosses of OM.”

The RMC Sport article stated, “In Spain, Yann M’Vila also interested Atletico de Madrid, who were looking to strengthen their midfield.”
